Chapter 8

The storm stopped shortly after that. Jensen was carted off to the hospital, the sirens on his ambulance mixing in with all the other ambulances sounding in the city. It was worse than it usually was after storms. They’d tried to get me to go to the hospital as well, but it was just exhaustion. I was, however, required to take the afternoon off.

As I walked to my car, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for more bad things to happen. They never did, and it was agonizing. With each tick of the second hand on the clock, I felt my sanity slip away a little bit more. It would be so much easier if there was something I could do, if I could go confront whoever it was who had spent the last week tormenting me. That was difficult when I didn’t know who it was, how to get to them, or if they were even real.
